Batizado FAQ's
- What is expected of me during batizado festival?
-
The main thing expected of students during the batizado festival is to have fun! Students should arrive early on the day of graduation in a full clean uniform, ready to face the days challenges. This is a time of celebration for everyone so the main thing is to enjoy yourself.
- How do I know if I'm ready to grade?
-
As a student you are not always aware of the progress of your own capoeira. Throughout the year you are constantly being evaluated on your improvements and when it comes to batizado you will be graded accordingly. As you reach higher cordas you will only find out that you are grading on the final day of batizado.
- Are all capoeira grading systems the same?
-
Associacao Internacional Sinha Bahia de Capoeira has one system which we use worldwide. Some other schools use systems that are different and some schools also have very similar systems. Sinha Bahia prides itself in having a strong quality of capoeira and this is definitely reflected in the graduation of our students.
- When can I get my next corda?
-
Before achieving corda amarela, students will spend six months on each corda. Once students reach corda amarela, they must stay for a minimum of one year on that level. Evaluations for yearly cordels (corda amarela upwards to Mestre) are done only at the start of the year. Students who receive corda amarela late in the year may have to spend 18 months before receiving their next grade.
- Why does it cost more to grade the higher you go up?
-
The price for beginners cordas has been reduced to help new students afford to participate in batizado. As students progress onto higher cordas the cost for batizado increases. This is a way for the higher graded student to help support the group, while the group tries to reduce cost for beginners.
